»But, in those sour dawns, Over and over, I will forge Africa’s signature.«
from Native in Short Writings from Bulawayo III
David was born in Bulawayo in 1958. He worked in private practice as a land surveyor until 1986 and lectured at the University of Zimbabwe until 2003, publishing some poetry in England along the way. He and his family then moved to New Zealand where he completed a PhD in customary land tenure, which necessitated three months of fieldwork in Zimbabwe in 2005. He now lectures at the University of Otago in Dunedin, and is still writing about Bulawayo.
