Gothataone was born in 1984, in Serowe in Botswana, and is currently working as a journalist for the Botswana Daily News. As an aspiring filmmaker, she has worked in the production department for Precious Films, the production company making the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, and has made a documentary film about the life of Bessie Head. Her short story Singing in the Rain won second prize at the inaugural British Council/Alexander McCall Smith short story writing competition in 2006.
